If only they could tell us…

There aren’t many things I’d want to change about horses. But for their own good, sometimes I wish this one thing was different.

But since it can’t be changed, it’s good to let his silent stoicism remind us of what we’re up against when dealing with horses.

Ultimately, in order to ensure the horse’s well being, we have to learn to ‘hear’ through his silence.

Excellent educational video Pat! Most people probably do not know that horses lack a vocal response to pain. I did not know this at all until I started coming to your farm!! And I had taken riding lessons at many other farms but this important fact was never, ever taught.

    Thank you!!

    Hi Pat,
Thank you so much for sharing this knowledge. I have never thought about, or read anything, regarding the vocal response to pain. It seems to me there is enough pain and suffering in the world it is absurd to think people can be cruel and not realize it. I was watching videos about safety vests and how they can blow up and protect the body from a fall. Some of the jumps and obstacles the horses and riders were doing were down right dangerous and in my opinion stupid, and most of all unnecessary. Who is designing a blow up vest for the horse? These vests have actually allowed some riders to be more reckless and stupid. And, who wants enjoys watching a sport where the trusting and obeying animal is put in life threatening situations? Thanks for educating your students so they will approach the care of horses with knowledge first.

I have always felt that the more people understand horses, the better lives horses will have. Thanks very much Angela.
I appreciate that you take the time to watch.
