So true. When I got my first horse he was a little bit pushy. One day the owner of the boarding barn was watching me handle him and she said to me “you’re being too nice”. And she was absolutely right. So I had to learn how to get bigger and tougher when necessary. I still loved on him plenty but it made a huge difference in the way he behaved for me.
I think the ‘being too nice’ trait is one that all of us have….but having said that, I have always found it easier to teach someone who is “too nice” to firm up a bit. It seems much harder to teach someone naturally rough or aggressive to learn to take it easy and be gentler … all about balance, right? Nice to hear from you…hope all is well…:-)
