I think it is a mistake to underestimate how much anxiety horses can have in a new situation, especially if you need to separate bonded groups.
That is why we are really taking it slowly with our new arrivals.
We want them to enjoy our company as much as we enjoy theirs.
The Bible tells us “Be diligent to know the state of your flocks; and attend to your herds.”
We are stewards of the gift of horses. We are to treat them kindly and with respect…remembering that they are dumb animals, not stupid…..but unable to speak to us humans except in their own way. So you are correct….go slowly and patiently. I do believe they really want to give us their best and often come to us with fear and anxiety from past experiences. Thank you for your love of the horse.
