I don’t have a lot of patience with people who think horses are stupid.
The fact that my school horses can understand what a variety of different students are asking them to do, when all the students are asking in a slightly different way, in a language that is not even native to the horse…well to me that is just remarkable.
But when we put them in a situation that is unexpected or unnatural, they can sometimes react in ways that don’t make too much sense to us. But we always should try to remember that it makes sense to their long term survival.
I think it’s up to us to find a way to put them at ease in those situations. That’s pretty much what this week’s video is about…
