Well said Pat……I’m so sorry for your loss. It’s never easy, but we love them SO much. Loving them means letting them go when they cannot take care of themselves any longer. I can’t help believe that when they are sick and hurting, there is an enormous fear factor too. I don’t want my animals to experience any of the three if I can help them relax and go to sleep. I love my vet, she and I have always had an agreement. She is so good to come running and help the animal end it’s misery. I love your kind heart……
Thank you for sharing , I found it very difficult to make the decision for my old girl , (32 years) she still had fire in her eyes but her arthritis was getting worse , plus other health problems ,had a discussion with the vet , altho I still miss her every day ,last summer was brutal and I was happy that she hadn’t had to cope with the heat and now this winter, so now she’s at rest. Regards G. Hewitt
Thank you for your thoughts. Pat. It is true that it is always a hard decision. I had to face that in March 2025 with my nearly 34-year-old guy. I still tear up when I think about it and I miss him so much. But though there were things that could have been done to try to save him at the time, the long-term prognosis was poor and it wouldn’t have given him any quality of life. I just knew he wouldn’t choose that for himself if he could. So I knew it was time. It was a heartbreaking decision, but it was absolutely the right one. Thanks for sharing.
